On Friday, 17th August 1860, Governor Sir Henry Barkly and Lady Barkly made a visit to the expedition's camp in Royal Park.

On Saturday 18th August 1860 at 1.00 pm, a special meeting of the Royal Society of Victoria was held. This meeting farewelled the Exploring Party. The men signed a Memorandum of Agreement then were addressed by Sir William Stawell, who made a Farewell Speech.

That evening the Deutscher Verein held a Farewell Dinner.

On Sunday 19th August, Dean McCartney held a Special Service at St James' Cathedral to 'implore the Divine blessing'.

On Monday 20th August 1860, the Victorian Exploring Expedition left Royal Park, Melbourne. The Mayor of Melbourne, Richard Eades, and Mr Burke made Farewell Speeches.
