Sir,

I have the honor, by direction of the Exploration Committee of the Royal Society, to transmit to you its Final Report, together with its former Progress Reports, in a collected form, accompanied by a summary of expenditure.

The Committee believes that these reports, drawn up with deliberation and care at different periods in the history of Victorian exploration, when the facts were fresh in the minds of its members, will furnish the best, succinct and authentic records of the labors of the Committee and the results of the main and contingent expedition.

I may add that all papers, note books, sketches, maps and records are carefully preserved and it is earnestly hoped that the Government will liberally support the Committee in giving to the world this accumulated mass of valuable geographical and other information in a suitable and permanent form.

I have the honor to be, Sir,
Your obedient servant
John Macadam, MD. Hon Secretary to the Exploration Committee

Melbourne, 20th August 1863.
